Title-Quest for the Potion of Power (September 29, 1990)
Game- Zelda II.
New voices
Link-Jonathan Potts
Zelda-Cynthia Preston
Gannon-Len Carlson
Captain N teaming up with Link and Zelda. Let that sink in. Good. This episode is based around the storyline of Zelda II. This is also a direct cross over of the Zelda cartoon with Captain N, which could be seen as a continuation of it. The great thing about this episode is the rivalry between Link and Kevin. It’s a good job that only Kevin and urgh, Gameboy, go as it gives us more of a personality clash. This was resolved later but through the episode Link gets fed up of being saved by Kevin.
One thing that also added to this was the fact Link was already built up in his series, so it was great to have that unknown history in there. If only they did a Mario cross over. Ah well I can dream I spose.
I loved them patting themselves on the back and showing off, helped show how similar they are. Gannon has been defeated and his armies are running around mindlessly. When I saw Mother Brain I was worried that Gannon would be lowered down, but greatly, he uses her. The final confrontation rocks, as does the animation once more. Gannon also had a better design and great voice in Len Carlson from the original show.
The Moblins also rocked, especially their Mexican accents. It was cool to see Link actually fighting with his sword and the dungeon puzzles like from the game. The bosses were also here such as Horsehead and Iron Knuckle. Both had strategies from the game to beat them.
Overall a must see episode that luckily wasn’t the last appearance of Link, Zelda and Hyrule.
